Dansfw may not be well known to most in the UK Hearthstone community, but with his recent performance at DreamHack Winter and now that he’s qualified for the ESL Premiership, he is making a name for himself.
David Hollingsworth had a chance to chat with Danswf about 2017, Un’goro Crater and his new team Dukes Esports.

Congrats on Qualifying for the ESL Spring Split! How does that feel to say out loud?

It feels great if I’m honest, all the hard work and practise I did over the last month to get there and make the Premiership for the first time feels amazing.
Now I finally get my chance to show everyone I am one of the best players in the UK.

You had a pretty impressive run, going 7-0 during your matches in the week 3 qualifying rounds. What was your strategy going into the event?

Well, it was simple, I took decks that can 3-0 anyone who brings a priest deck. A week prior, there was an ONOG Major and the top four all had a priest in their deck list, so I knew people would bring one and they did.
I faced six people with a priest, so it worked really well.

“I’m looking forward to facing BoarControl for the first time. I’ve been waiting to face him for a long time – I think he is the best player in the UK.”

You recently joined Dukes Esports, how big an impact has that had on your mentality?

Duke esports have been amazing, a lot of support was given to me during this event. And joining a new team gave me a lot of motivation to make it to the Premiership.
I’m really happy to be on this team and hope I can show them how good I am at Hearthstone.

Now qualification is secured, what are you looking forward to most about the competition?

I’m looking forward to facing BoarControl for the first time. I’ve been waiting to face him for a long time – I think he is the best player in the UK.
I just cant wait to play everyone and see who is the best player in the UK once again. After watching the last season it’s going to be great to play in it.

Journey to Un’Goro is going to drop mid-season, what kind of impact could a new card set have on the meta and the Premiership as a whole?

I think this will be great for viewers but not so good for me and other players though. There will be loads of work to do and we’ll have to test things to find the so-called best decks.

“I really want to prove myself and show people I am capable of going to the next level.”

As a follow-up to that, are you the type of player who will benefit from a sudden meta shift?

Yes, I love trying new decks and new things so I think the new meta will benefit me. I’m going to be testing lots of things when the new expansion drops.

What is on the horizon for you as a Hearthstone player?

I think I have done well as a Hearthstone player, I really want to prove myself and show people I am capable of going to the next level. Also, I am really looking forward to the ESL Premiership.

Are there any cards you will miss from standard when Un’Goro drops?

Sylvanas. I love that it steals a card and gains me tempo. Also, she is my favourite legendary – I used to play her in my combo druid decks.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Yes – I am going to link the decks I played:
