Diablo III: Complete launch guide

Diablo III launch guide
Find out everything you need to know before you start up Diablo III on May 15th – including choosing the right character class and skills, sorting out your BattleTag, discovering how the auction house works, checking your computer specs and how to install the game before it’s out.
Our Diablo III launch guide has all the essential information in one handy place.

Get the game and pre-install it
Blizzard has posted a handy launch guide explaining how to install the game one day early so you’re all ready to go come midnight on Monday May 14th.
Create a BattleTag
Make sure you’ve got a Battle.net account and BattleTag set up – this will save time on launch day. Blizzard says the servers may be under strain with delays expected, so get this ready early and you won’t have to faff about when the time comes.
Choose a character class
There are five to pick from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. These include the ranged Demon Hunter, hand-to-hand Barbarian, the healer/warrior hybrid Monk, spell-casting Wizard and necromancer-style Witch Doctor.
Check out the character class page and find the right one for you, or read the pages from the game’s manual here: In pictures: What’s inside the Diablo III box and manual?
Sort out your skills
Have a look at the talent trees to see what kind of character build you want to go for. Do you want to be a defense-based trap-casting Demon Hunter or a ranged character with emphasis on all out bow damage?
You can use Blizzard’s skill calculator to create your own unique character. Here’s one we made earlier.
Check your specs
Diablo III isn’t as basic as its predecessors, so you’ll need a certain graphics card and enough space on your PC or Mac to play it. Here’s the Diablo III system requirements.
Find out how the auction house works
Diablo III uses both an in-game gold auction house and one that uses real money. For more information check out these links:

Get to know the goodies
There are hundreds of in-game items listed on the Diablo III website, so you can familiarise yourself with them before the game comes out.
